̌
I’m a freelance editor, journalist, and novelist based in the D.C. area. I have an M.F.A. in creative writing from George Mason University and a B.A. in English from the College of William and Mary. I offer a diverse range of writing, editing, and research services, with a focus on developmental editing of fiction and memoir. I also copy edit, proofread, write copy, and perform fact checking and deep dive research. My fiction is represented by Alisha West and Lizz Nagle of Victress Literary.
In addition to my freelance work, I’m the local authors editor of DCTRENDING.com, an online magazine covering stories at the intersection of the arts, culture, and social change in the nation’s capital. I’m the former fiction editor of two national literary journals: So to Speak and The William and Mary Review. Other past work experience includes teaching composition at Northern Virginia Community College; interning for the PEN/Faulkner Foundation; serving as the communications specialist for local theater arts company CARE Actor; interning for allAfrica Global Media as their book review editor; and helping to start the alternative newspaper The Washington Spark. (Oh, and when I was 23, I did spend a year working on a farm.)
I’ve published articles, op-eds, and essays on politics, parenting, and being a human in The Washington Post, Healthline, Memoir Magazine (where I won an essay contest), OtherWords, and Scary Mommy, among others. My book reviews, interviews, and arts journalism have appeared in publications including The Washington Independent Review of Books, Tottenville Review, and DCTRENDING. And I’ve published short fiction and poetry in The Washington Writers Publishing House’s anthology This Is What America Looks Like, The Nassau Review, Agave Magazine, and Stymie, among others. My first novel is currently on submission. It was a finalist for the 2022 Eludia Award from Hidden River Arts and was longlisted for the Dzanc Books Prize for Fiction.
Before taking a high school writing workshop, I wanted to be a mathematician. I still think math is beautiful, a way to tame the chaos, but now I prefer to work with words instead of numbers. I’m obsessed with the ocean, the stars, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and many kinds of coming of age stories. I live with my husband and son in the D.C. area, where I’m working on my second novel and a lot of other fun writing and editing projects. I would love to learn about yours.
